Day 3 - Kingdom Prayers

Day 3

Father, so few people today really believe that the Power and Presence of Jesus is Present in a unique way when Your people gather on the Lord’s Day.  But in 1 Corinthians 5:4, Paul writes that when the local church gathers, the Power of the Lord Jesus is indeed present. Work in our hearts so that we would DELIGHT in assembling together.  You tell us in Hebrews 10:25 not to neglect the assembling together of ourselves where we can stir one another to love and good deeds.  Father, we have so many options every weekend.  We tend to overwork during the week and feel we need to “get away” and spend time with family.  Remind us that the best way to love our families is to worship together in the congregation.  Lord, we are praying continually that You will shrink the “fringe” of our church and expand the “core.”  We long to see ALL of Your people “on fire” for You, experiencing renewal and awakening.

Day 3 – Prayer of Praise to our Heavenly Father

“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised” - Psalm 48:1a

Heavenly Father, we praise You for who You are and what You do for Your children. We praise You for Your love for and patience with Your children.  We celebrate Your character and attributes. We praise You for Your goodness, patience, love, grace, knowledge, power, holiness, wisdom, greatness and glory. We pray that these attributes will be manifested through our lives and Your church.

We pray also for the city of Houston and those imacted by Hurricane Harvey. Protect the families evacuating from the path of the storm. Comfort the people of Houston with the peace of your Presence in the chaos of the storm, that they may know you are sovereign over all the wind and the waves. Use this disaster to reveal your redemptive power, bringing beauty from ashes. Strengthen and enable your church, by your grace, to rise up in the midst of and in the aftermath of this devastating storm. Remind us to conintue to pray for the people of Houston as this storm blows through this week and as the city rebuilds and recovers.

I pray we will find our calling and purpose in Christ and serve the Church and community in grace with love by the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray we will care for our loved ones, and even strangers, with love, wisdom and grace.

Lord we pray that as our children walk in light of your truth, that they would be mission minded. As our children learn of how your Word is being spread to many tribes and nations, we pray that they would seek to spread your gospel of grace in their schools, communities and amongst their friends and family.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” - Acts 1:8

Heavenly Father your Kingdom is not of this world but being built in the hearts of your people. As our students navigate through this world with all the kingdoms that are competing for their affections, please reveal to them the Kingdom of your heart for them. A kingdom of unconditional love and compassion. May they know that your Kingdom is built with those who are poor in spirit, mourn over their sin, who hunger and thirst for righteousness and those who are merciful. Fill them with your Spirit so they may see all these characteristics are found in your Son Jesus Christ. Work in their hearts in such a way that they would reveal your kingdom and not this worlds.

Heavenly Father: Depression, anxious stress, and fear dreadfully hurt so many people and their families. Give the peace of the gospel to those who suffer and bind their wounds with your tender Holy Spirit care. In the Name above all names. Amen.

We pray likewise for members who are faithfully ministering the Gospel overseas:  Tony & Tracy Boyd - Asia, Becca & Marshall Kitron - Peru, Kat Long - Bulgaria, Rhett & Holly Wheeler - Uganda, Sarah Wentworth - Uganda, Chris & Catherine Zobrosky - Australia, Rick & Mary Beth Holladay - Germany, Whitney Shores - London, Elvis Le - London, Aubrie Allen - Bulgaria, Sarah (Bracewell) & Sam Miller - Australia, and Michael Flayhart - Japan.

Westminster School

Father, we are grateful for the impact that Westminster has in the lives of so many families and children. We pray for the teachers and staff that they would model a grace filled life to these children that they might grow and mature to become men and women who embrace and live out their faith wherever you call them in the world.

We pray for the worship ministries of the Birmingham churches that they would empower those in their care to use their gifts, given by You, to lead others in praise of Your glory.  We pray that their services of worship would be honoring and glorifying to You.  We pray that distractions would be removed, that leadership would seek Your face, and that Your Spirit and Word would move in power in a glorious way.

Father, we thank you for making us your children, for freeing us from the penalty of sin and from the power of sin. As our Father, you long to see us transformed more and more into the image of Jesus. We pray that all of our small group ministries, and particularly Life Groups, would be a place where we are moved forward in our spiritual growth as we experience surprising grace together.
